Our goal at Drama English School is to provide a challenging, standards based math curriculum for all students. For this reason, students are assessed periodically to determine appropriate math placement. Placement is based on test scores , grades, work habits, and teacher recommendation.
Sixth grade- Curriculum is standards based and focuses on number theory, measurement, geometry, patterns and functions, probability, logic and algebra. Students use McDougall Little Mathematics and Skills Level 1. In conjunction with the textbook, students are given opportunities to learn math by doing hands on activities, projects and problem of the week. There is one advanced math section wheel which uses the 7th grade textbook-Mathematics and Skills, Course 2, by McDougall Littell.
Seventh Grade - Based on on-going assessments, students are placed either in seventh grade math or algebra 1-2. For the Algebra course we use Algebra I concepts and Skills by Mc Dougal - Little
.
Eighth Grade - There are three courses offered to eighth grade students. Students who have successfully completed Algebra 1-2 as evidenced by test scores, grades and teacher recommendations are enrolled in Geometry 1-2. Algebra 1-2 is offered to students who need to repeat the course and to Seventh grade students who do well in the seventh grade math program. The remainder of our eight grade students take Algebra .5, an introduction to Algebra 1-2 curriculum and a review of basic math skills. We use our Algebra text book for this curriculum.
